Keynote speaker

Professor Dr. Suhaidi Hassan is a tenured Professor of Computing Network and the founding Chairman of the InterNetWorks Research Laboratory at the School of Computing, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). Prof. Suhaidi studied Computer Science at the Thomas J. Watson School of Engineering and Applied Science, State University of New York in Binghamton and graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He subsequently earned his master’s degree in Information Science (focussing on Telecommunications and Networks) at the University of Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania. He completed and obtained his PhD degree in Computing (in Networks Performance Engineering) from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
Prof. Suhaidi is currently the Chair of UUM Council of Professors, and a fellow of the Akademi Profesor Malaysia. In 2006, Prof. Suhaidi led an initiative to establish the ITU-UUM Asia-Pacific Centre of Excellence for Rural ICT Development - a human resource development program of the Geneva-based International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which serves as the focal point for all rural ICT development programs across the Asia Pacific region. The ITU-UUM Centre provides executive trainings, knowledge repositories, R&D, and consultancy activities.
Prof. Suhaidi is also the Internet Society (ISOC) Fellow alumnus to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). In 2006, he was selected as a WKD Foundation (Switzerland)’s Young Scientist Fellow at the World Knowledge Dialogue, in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. In the technical sphere, Prof. Suhaidi is a registered Professional Technologist (PTech) of the Malaysia Board of Technologist (MBOT), a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), who actively involved in both IEEE Communications and IEEE Computer societies, and as the past Vice Chair of the IEEE Malaysia Computer Society. He is also a founding member and the past President of the Internet Society Malaysia Chapter and has served as a member of the technical steering committee for the Malaysian Research and Educational Network (MYREN).
Prof. Suhaidi participates in various international public fora, such as Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) meetings and the Internet Governance Forums (IGF). He has served as editor, reviewer, and referee for journals and conferences, as well as an examiner for over 100 doctoral and postgraduate scholars in his research field. He has authored and co-authored more than 200 refereed technical publications, successfully guided 27 Ph.D. and another 28 MSc. scholars in computer and communication networks.
Prof. Suhaidi is a founding member of the IPT Distributed Ledger Technologies Consortium (IDLTC), a blockchain consortium established under the purview of the Malaysian Ministry of Education, and the founding member of the Internet Society (Global) Blockchain Special Interest Group. Prof. Suhaidi has proudly established and currently chairing the board of the Cooperative of Digital Experts (CodeX) Kedah Berhad. He is also one of the ICANN At-Large Ambassadors and the host of the 68th ICANN (Virtual) Public Policy Meeting (ICANN68), Kuala Lumpur in June 2020.
